A former working mother shares her tips for creating delicious and nutritious dinners for families in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Gathering and eating a nutritious meal together is more important than ever, and working mothers can make this happen. That’s the claim of this new cookbook created by Gabbie Krivonak, a retired IBM executive and food blogger. She knows from experience that it’s possible because she created meals for her family while working long hours.

“My Mom’s a Good Cooker: A Working Mom’s Guide to Family Dinners” mixes cooking strategies and techniques with recipes designed for family members of all ages. Mothers who have toddlers can choose from a classic offerings like chicken fingers, silver dollar pancakes and quesadillas. Elementary children whose moms own this cookbook may find spaghetti and meatballs, beef stew or chicken tacos on the table. Mothers of teens have their own challenges, including squeezing dinner in with all the activities that come with young adults. Recipes such as chicken margarita, white bean and ham soup, and world’s second best lasagna fit that bill.

Once children are grown and out of the house, empty nesters can tailor menus to fit their need for food with lower sodium or fat content, limiting such things doesn’t mean limiting taste. Spicy pasta, Gabbie’s chili, blackened grouper with mango salsa and chicken with ginger-lime sauce are brimming with flavor. Charts highlighting caloric intake, body-mass index and the government’s daily food plan provide scientific know-how to guide cooks to healthy menu choices.

Author Gabbie Krivonak has taken classes in classical French cooking at L’Academie de Cuisine of Bethesda, Md. The small business owner of My Mom’s a Good Cooker Inc. and a food blogger, is also a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals. She has two children and four grandchildren, and she and her husband, Buzz, live in Rockville, Md.
